Charges Filed Against Suspect in Fatal Shooting at Long Point Road, Houston

A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting incident that occurred at 8100 Long Point Road on March 8, around 10:50 p.m.

The accused, identified as 45-year-old Cedric La Shawn Smith, is facing a murder charge in the 174th State District Court. The victim in the case has been named as 32-year-old Porfirio De Jesus Sampayo.

Houston Police Department Homicide Division detectives reported that police were dispatched to a crash at the aforementioned address. Upon arrival, officers found a truck that had struck a light pole. When paramedics examined the male driver, they discovered he had suffered at least one gunshot wound. Mr. Sampayo was declared dead at the scene.

Evidence collected at the scene indicates that Mr. Sampayo was in a post office parking lot when he seemingly engaged in a verbal altercation with another man. As Mr. Sampayo was leaving the scene in his truck, the suspect shot him. Losing control of his vehicle, Mr. Sampayo subsequently crashed into a utility pole.

The suspect, last seen riding a bicycle eastbound on Long Point Road, was later identified as Smith. Smith was apprehended on August 2 on unrelated previous charges and was booked into the Harris County Jail. Following this, Smith was charged for his involvement in the death of Mr. Sampayo.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with further information related to the case to come forward.
