Fatal Hit-and-Run on Westheimer Road Leads to Arrest of Tesla Driver

Houston, July 31, 2023 – Joseph Higgins, 30, has been arrested and charged in relation to a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred around 12:50 AM today in the 4800 block of Westheimer Road, according to the Houston Police Department. Higgins has been charged with failure to stop and render aid in the 183rd State District Court.

The male victim, whose identity is yet to be confirmed by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, was crossing the road when he was struck by a white Tesla Model 3. It is reported that he failed to yield the right of way to the car, which was traveling eastbound at the aforementioned address.

Authorities report that after striking the man, the Tesla driver did not stop to assist. The victim was later pronounced dead at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.

Investigators were able to locate the Tesla and subsequently arrested Higgins. At the time of his arrest, Higgins showed no signs of impairment. The investigation is ongoing.
