Second Suspect Charged in Fatal Shooting on Fleetwell Drive, Houston
(HOUSTON, TX, Aug. 31, 2023) – Charges have been filed against a second suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of two men and the wounding of a third at 14137 Fleetwell Drive, which occurred at approximately 4:55 p.m. on February 4, 2023.
The second suspect, Markeith Eric Simpson, 26, is charged with capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 208th State District Court. The first suspect, Chase Franklin Williams, 18, has been in custody and is charged with capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 338th State District Court.
Both suspects are implicated in the killings of Reginald Reed, 58, and Brandon Forbes, 23, as well as the wounding of a 32-year-old man. Booking photos of both suspects have been attached to this news release.
Houston Police Department (HPD) Homicide Division Detectives reported that patrol officers initially responded to a shooting call at 14110 Buffalo Speedway, where they found Mr. Forbes unresponsive in the median of the road with gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him deceased. Officers then learned of a second shooting at 14137 Fleetwell Drive. Upon arrival, they found Mr. Reed unresponsive on the front porch of the residence. He was pronounced deceased from gunshot wounds. Another man approached the officers, stating he had also been shot at the same location. Paramedics transported him to an area hospital in stable condition.
Chase Franklin Williams was identified as a suspect and arrested on February 6, 2023. Further investigation led to the identification of Markeith Eric Simpson as the second suspect. Simpson was arrested on Wednesday, August 30, and booked into the Harris County Jail.
