18-Year-Old Charged in Connection with Juvenile’s Death at 4103 Barberry Drive

HOUSTON, TEXAS, Sept. 6, 2023 – An 18-year-old male, Kahlis Willis, has been charged with capital murder following the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy. The incident occurred at an apartment complex on 4103 Barberry Drive on Monday, Sept. 4, around 11 p.m. The victim’s identity is awaiting confirmation from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Officers from the HPD Homicide Division arrived at the scene in response to reports of a shooting. They discovered the juvenile victim unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department subsequently declared the victim deceased at the scene. Eyewitness accounts included reports of gunfire and individuals fleeing the vicinity. Further inquiries led to the arrest of Willis on Tuesday, Sept. 5, executed by the HPD Southeast Crime Suppression Team and deputies from the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office.
