Fact Check: Did a Uber driver refuses to take a rider because “He didn’t look nice”.
As soon as the Uber rider gets in the car, the driver looks at him and says he does not want to take him. When pressed as to why the Uber driver said “because you do not look nice”.
When the rider asked about that statement, the driver appeared to say “no, no” but the rider decided to cut off the video. (Red Flag #1) We have to ask. Why did the rider cut off the video at that point? Yes, this is on TikTok, but there is a 3-minute limit and this video was nowhere close to 3 minutes.
The second red flag is that the rider was recording as he got into the vehicle. This, I can tell you from 7 years of experience is not normal behavior. Sure, I have some people remain on the phone with a friend (perfectly okay, normal and a great idea actually) but never have I had a rider that decided to record as they entered the vehicle.
This leads me to believe that the driver had kicked him out already. The rider decided to come back and do some gaslighting in the hopes of getting this driver fired.
This video is starting to go viral, and I hope whoever reviews this incident at Uber realizes the rider is not telling the entire story.

How do you protect yourself?
Get an interior dashcam. You can get a Nexar, or Vantrue just be sure it is recording before riders enter your vehicle. Yes, it is an investment, but it is part of the job. You do not want a job over a lying SOB. If this driver had a dashcam, he can now track down the rider and sue for defamation since he didn’t only make a false claim to Uber, but he posted it on social media for the world to see.
