The Basics

Fact Check: Can you make $800 a day giving rides on Uber?

Have you ever wondered how much a Uber driver gets paid in one day? In a city like Houston where drivers let themselves be taken advantage of and gladly work for 60 cents a mile (yellow cab is $2.20 a mile, in Houston) this is not possible. During a regular 8 hour shift, you can expect to make $100-$150. In peak times, you can expect this to go up, but you will be hard pressed to make $300 in one day much less $800 in a day.

However, in a city like Washington D.C., (much smaller than Houston by the way) you can make $800 a day. Is this all the time? Likely not. The driver who posted this screenshot obviously did so because he had a better-than-average day. Could you make $300 a day on average? Yes. Busy days often tend to double earnings. Austin drivers for example, regularly post earnings in their Facebook groups that are in the $300 range.

But, Houston drivers, in general, would rather be taken advantage of and do not care about increasing their earnings overall.
