Suspect in HPD custody after 18 years on the run

A suspect, Antonio Balencia Davalos is in custody after fleeing to Mexico almost 18 years ago.

He is being charged with killing Santiago Gonzalez, who was 31 at the time at 6320 Windswept lane in Houston after an argument in August of 2004.

During the argument, Davalos pulled a pistol from his wristband and fired several shots at Gonzalez, striking him and killing him at the scene.

As witnesses identified Davalos as the killer and investigators worked to obtain warrants, he fled to Mexico.

HPD’s Cold Case unit was able to locate him in 2015 but had trouble expediting him from Mexico.
