Suspect Arrested in Fatal Stabbing at Sakowitz Street Apartment Complex

August 2, 2023, Houston, Texas – Marques Kelvin Potts, a 58-year-old man, has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 43-year-old woman at an apartment complex on Sakowitz Street on July 29.

Potts is currently facing murder charges in the 262nd State District Court.

The identity of the deceased woman is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Patrol officers responded to a disturbance at the apartment complex following reports of a woman pleading for help. On their arrival, they discovered the woman unresponsive at the entrance of her apartment. Paramedics declared her dead at the scene due to multiple stab wounds.

Investigations, including evidence from the scene and witness statements, identified Potts as the prime suspect. Following consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, a murder charge was filed.

On August 1, Potts was arrested without incident by members of the Northeast Patrol Crime Suppression Team. He was subsequently booked into the Harris County Jail.
