11-Year-Old Girl Found Murdered; Investigation Underway

HOUSTON, TX, August 12, 2023 – An 11-year-old girl, identified as Maria Gonzalez, was found deceased on Saturday, August 12, after her father discovered her under a bed upon returning home from work.

At approximately 3:07 pm, police were called to the residence at 1004 Main #204 where Acadian Medics were already administering medical aid. Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The initial investigation has revealed that Carmelo Gonzalez, Maria’s father, had left for work earlier that day and had communicated with Maria via cell phone. The last message he received from her stated that someone was knocking at the front door.

The medical examiner has determined the cause of death as asphyxiation due to strangulation, and additional investigation found that the victim was sexually assaulted.

Members of the Violent Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit are working to process evidence and follow leads.
