Charges Filed Against Suspect in Fatal Shooting; Suspect Still at Large
HOUSTON, TX, August 16, 2023 – Charges have been filed against Roger Valdes, 21, wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of one man and the wounding of four others at 9263 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) service road around 4:30 a.m. on July 23. Valdes has been charged with murder and four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 248th State District Court. He is not currently in custody.
Valdes is accused of the fatal shooting of Israel Gonzalez, 22. The four other male victims, ranging in age from 20 to 28, were treated and released from area hospitals.
HPD Homicide Division’s Sergeant A. Lopez and Detective C. Bowling reported that officers were dispatched to a shooting call outside an after-hours bar at the aforementioned address and found multiple individuals with gunshot wounds. Paramedics transported three victims to area hospitals, where Mr. Gonzalez was later pronounced deceased. A fourth victim was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle, and a fifth victim, with a gunshot wound to the foot, declined medical attention at the scene.
Further investigation identified Valdes as the suspect in this case, leading to the charges filed on Monday, August 14.
