CONSTABLE DEPUTIES CONTINUING TO TARGET HIGH CRIME AREAS
MERCURY AND EAST FWY, TEXAS, Aug. 22, 2023 – On Tuesday, deputies with Constable Jerry Garcia’s Special Operations Unit were conducting proactive patrols in the area of Mercury and the East Fwy, a local hotspot for criminal activity.
While monitoring local businesses, deputies observed a suspicious vehicle involved in activities consistent with narcotic sales. They continued to watch the vehicle and its occupant’s behavior, which showed continued suspicious activity.
As the vehicle pulled onto a public roadway, it violated several traffic laws, leading to a traffic stop. The driver, the sole occupant, was found to have an open misdemeanor warrant through Harris County for illegal dumping. With the warrant confirmed and the man’s behavior observed, deputies requested that he exit the vehicle for detention purposes. The suspect refused and eventually fled.
A short pursuit followed, ending with the suspect’s eventual pull-over and custody by deputies without further incident. A search of the vehicle found small amounts of Ecstasy and Marijuana. The District Attorney accepted felony charges of evading in a motor vehicle.
Kenyon Johnson, 50, was transported to Harris County Jail, where he was booked for the misdemeanor warrant and an additional felony charge for evading. Community members are urged to stay safe.
