Driver Fleeing Earlier Crash Causes Major Collision in Front of Galveston’s Pleasure Pier
August 28, 2023 – Galveston, TX – A significant traffic collision unfolded early Monday evening in front of Pleasure Pier in Galveston. The driver, yet to be identified, was reportedly fleeing an earlier hit-and-run incident when the crash occurred.
According to GPD Sergeant Robert Sanderson, the fleeing motorist was heading east from a prior accident at the intersection of 29th and Seawall. The driver collided with a Mustang at the western side of the intersection at 25th and Seawall. Following this collision, the driver went on to hit a “Duck” amphibious vehicle and a pickup truck, both of which were parked and unoccupied on the eastern side of the intersection.
The driver of the fleeing vehicle was the only individual reported injured in the chain of collisions. The Galveston Fire Department had to extricate the driver, who was pinned inside his car. He was subsequently transported to the hospital, although his condition remains unknown.
Witnesses reported that the driver appeared alert and was even struggling as he was loaded into the ambulance. The involvement of alcohol or other impairing substances has not yet been confirmed. The incident is currently under investigation by the Galveston Police Department.
