University of Saint Thomas Closes Buildings Due to Gas Leak

HOUSTON, TEXAS, AUGUST 30, 2023 – A gas leak prompted the temporary closure of the Moran Center Parking Garage and Crooker Center at the University of Saint Thomas earlier today. The leak occurred during excavation work at the half-circular drive on Graustark Street. Authorities have advised people to avoid the area until further notice.

Residents of Guinan Hall have been instructed not to return to the building for the time being. They are advised to wait at Jerabeck Center or the University Library. Additionally, individuals are currently unable to retrieve their vehicles from or exit the parking garage.

Fire Department personnel are on the scene securing the area, and CenterPoint Energy is en route to turn off the gas supply. Further updates are expected as the situation unfolds.
