Off-Duty Kyle Police Officer Shot in San Marcos Released from Hospital; Suspect Arrested

(SAN MARCOS, Texas, August 31, 2023) – An off-duty officer from the Kyle Police Department, who was shot over the weekend while serving as a courtesy officer at an apartment complex on Post Road in San Marcos, has been released from the hospital and is in good condition.

San Marcos Police responded to the incident early Saturday morning. The off-duty officer was investigating the sound of gunshots or fireworks at the apartment complex when he was shot. Officers from the San Marcos Police Department arrived within minutes of the shooting and quickly conducted a search warrant, leading to the arrest of a suspect on multiple charges. These charges include Attempted Capital Murder of a Peace Officer and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Kyle Police Chief Jeff Barnett expressed gratitude for the rapid response of both San Marcos Hays County EMS and the San Marcos Police Department, specifically praising their swift action in locating and apprehending the suspect. The officer is now on the road to recovery.
