Unattended Stovetop Cooking Suspected in West Oaks Landing Apartment Fire

WEST OAKS, TX, Sept. 2, 2023 — At approximately 10:40 a.m., Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department responded to reports of smoke emanating from an apartment unit at West Oaks Landing Apartments, located at 15255 Gray Ridge Dr. Apartment management initially tried to quell the fire using an extinguisher. Upon firefighters’ arrival, the fire was identified as originating from the kitchen, likely due to unattended stovetop cooking. There were no occupants in the home at the time of the incident. The fire was confined to the kitchen area, and no other units were affected. No injuries have been reported. Harris County ESD 48 Fire Department Rehab 3 assisted the responding crews on scene.
