Texas City Police Make Arrests in Kidnapping and Murder Case
TEXAS CITY, TX, Sept. 7, 2023 – Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and subsequent murder of La Marque resident Juan Alvarez, 40, Texas City police reported.
On Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023, at approximately 4:40 PM, police were alerted to a shooting incident involving a moving vehicle along State Highway 146. Initial reports suggested an exchange of fire between two vehicles, but it was later determined that only one vehicle was involved.
As authorities delved deeper into the case, they discovered that three suspects had abducted Alvarez. The victim was then shot and discarded on the side of a feeder road in the 1700 block of State Highway 6 from a white sedan. Despite being swiftly transported to the HCA Houston Healthcare’s Mainland Medical Center, Alvarez succumbed to his gunshot injuries.
In the ensuing investigation, police identified four individuals as probable suspects involved in the tragic incident. Aaron Daniel Rodriguez, 31, was the first to be arrested on Sunday on charges of murder and aggravated kidnapping involving a deadly weapon. Held at the Galveston County Jail, Rodriguez’s bond has been set at $400,000.
In a strategic move to avoid alerting the other suspects, Rodriguez’s arrest was not immediately publicized. This careful approach facilitated the subsequent arrest of the remaining suspects on Thursday, in collaboration with the US Marshals, the Violent Offender Task Force, and Harris County Constable Precinct 8 deputies.
Among the arrested was Tara Rodriguez, a relative of Aaron Rodriguez, who was already detained in the Brazoria County Jail for unrelated charges. She is now facing an additional Galveston County charge of aggravated kidnapping, with her bond determined at $250,000.
Two other individuals, Tara Alise Rodriguez and Michael Hernandez, have also been taken into custody on charges of aggravated kidnapping, with bonds set at $250,000 each. While details remain limited at this stage, the Texas City police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the kidnapping and murder of Alvarez.
