Grenade Found in Vehicle During Traffic Stop Near IAH; Roadway Reopened

HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS, Sept. 12, 2023 – A traffic stop conducted by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) District 3 Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) near George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Humble, led to a critical discovery and a subsequent arrest earlier today.

The operation took place as part of an investigation overseen by the Texas Department of Public Safety Southeast (TxDPSSoutheast). Officers initiated the traffic stop near the 4500 block of FM 1960 E, during which they found a grenade inside the vehicle.

Prompt response by the HCSO Bomb Unit ensured the item was rendered safe, mitigating any immediate danger to the public. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody; further details regarding their identity and the specific charges levied are still pending.

Following the completion of the operation, the roadway, which had been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure, has been reopened to the public.

The sheriff’s office expressed its gratitude to the community for their patience during the closure and acknowledged the excellent teamwork displayed by all units involved in ensuring public safety in the proximity of a major transportation hub like the IAH.
