Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-35 Results in Three Fatalities

FORT WORTH, TEXAS, SEPTEMBER 11, 2023 – A severe multi-vehicle crash involving two semi-trucks and three cars resulted in three fatalities and three critical injuries on Interstate 35 near Berry Street, Fort Worth police reported.

The incident, which transpired around 9 p.m. on Monday night, forced the closure of a significant section of the freeway for several hours. It originated from a minor accident in the northbound lanes, the cause of which remains under investigation. Authorities confirmed that there was no precipitation at the time, and they do not suspect alcohol was a contributing factor.

Officer Daniel Segura, a representative of the Fort Worth Police Department, provided an account of the events that escalated the initial minor accident into a catastrophic event. He stated, “Another truck stopped to assist and was partially blocking the left shoulder. At this juncture, an 18-wheeler traveling northbound collided with the vehicles present at the scene.”

Currently, investigators are working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the tragic incident, including the specific locations of the victims at the time they were struck. The identification details of the victims remain withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

Following the collision, both the northbound and southbound lanes were closed to facilitate emergency response and preliminary investigations. The lanes have since reopened, having been cleared overnight after the necessary on-site evaluations were conducted. Authorities are urging witnesses or individuals with information related to the accident to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
