La Marque Police Investigate Unclear Circumstances of Shooting After Man Arrives at Texas City ER

TEXAS CITY, Texas, Oct. 2, 2023 – A man with a gunshot wound to the leg arrived at HCA Houston Healthcare’s 24/7 Emergency Room located at 3302 Palmer Highway in Texas City on Monday afternoon. Texas City Police responded to the medical facility around 5:55 PM following a call regarding a shooting victim.

Upon arrival, officers questioned the wounded individual, who claimed he had been shot in La Marque. La Marque police were then summoned to further investigate the situation.

After two hours of questioning, investigators still lacked clarity on the location of the shooting or the identity of the shooter. The wounded man provided conflicting accounts, leading to ongoing inquiries into the situation.

Detectives are considering the possibility that the wound may have been self-inflicted, potentially through accidental discharge. Additionally, authorities are exploring whether the incident may be related to a previous report of gunfire at a Walmart store in La Marque.

Earlier in the day, police had responded to a report of shots fired at the Walmart located at Interstate 45 at FM 1764. Although no definitive evidence of a shooting was found at that location, officers are currently reviewing surveillance footage.

The injured man has been transported to an area hospital for further treatment of his gunshot wound. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
