The first count of the indictment accuses Best of killing Kali Randall by shooting her, which resulted in her death. The second count alleges that Best also killed Randall’s unborn child through the act of shooting Randall. The third count charges Best with the murder of his infant son, Zeke Best, by inflicting a fatal knife wound to the child’s neck. Details surrounding the exact time and location of Zeke’s death remain unclear.

Due to the sealed nature of grand jury proceedings, further specifics are currently unavailable. According to a joint press release from Teton County Prosecutor Bailey Smith and Bonneville County Prosecutor Randy Neal, the case against Best will proceed in Teton County, despite Zeke Best’s body being found in Bonneville County.

During his initial court appearance on December 4, Magistrate Judge Jason Walker ordered a mental competency evaluation for Best. The completion of this evaluation is pending, and all subsequent court hearings are on hold until the evaluation is finalized.
