23rd World Petroleum Congress: Where is the dropoff/pick-up for Rideshare?

The 23rd World Petroleum Congress is taking place in Houston, the “Energy Transition Capital of the World” starting December 5 and ending December 9, 2021, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Downtown Houston.

As of this writing, there is not an official drop-off or pick-up zone posted, and we are still waiting to hear back from WPC. If this changes, we will update this page. Below are some tips if you are not from Houston on best practices to find your Uber or Lyft driver.

Where should I meet my Uber or Lyft driver after the World Petroleum Congress?

While we will try to get you as close as possible to the George R. Brown Convention as possible, your best bet (and likely pickup area) will be west of Discovery Green, the sprawling park/green area outside the George R. Brown Convention Center. The Marriott Marquis (north of Discovery Green) and Hilton Americas-Houston (South of Discovery Green) will likely become pickup and drop-off areas, assuming the streets will be accessible, but traffic will be extremely bad. Going West of Discovery Green, you can avoid most of this traffic.

You can type in Four Seasons Hotel Houston (not Four Seasons landscaping) into your maps to find your way out west and out of the madness that will be the World Petroleum Congress.

Keep in mind, that Downtown Houston is composed of one-way streets, and there will be closures. If it looks like your driver passed up your street, chances are they have to find another street that will allow them to turn without turning into oncoming traffic. Feel free to call your driver, and let them know exactly what building or business you are waiting in front of, or the street corner aka “Austin @ Mckinney”.
