Lawsuit Filed Against Houston Nightclub Over Fatal Car Crash

HOUSTON, TX, July 19, 2023 — A Houston nightclub, 2401SJ Holdings, LLC, doing business as Space Night Club, has been hit with a lawsuit over a fatal car crash involving a patron of the club. The suit was filed by Deneshia Holman, individually, as personal representative of the Estate of Cordaro Davenport, and as next friend of their minor children.

According to the lawsuit, filed in the District Court of Harris County, the deceased, Cordaro Davenport, had been served alcohol at Space Night Club to the point of obvious intoxication before he got into his car and collided with a concrete partition on US 59. The incident occurred on June 4, 2023, at 2:50 AM. Davenport’s Blood Alcohol Content at the time of his death was recorded as 0.235.

The plaintiff alleges that the club’s management encourages over-service of alcohol and turns a blind eye to any infractions by its bartenders or bottle-service girls. According to the petition, the defendant violated the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code, which led to Davenport’s death.

The suit asserts that as the holder of a mixed beverage permit, Space Night Club, as a provider of alcohol, violated the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code by selling or providing alcoholic beverages to Davenport after he was obviously intoxicated, presenting a clear danger to himself and others.

The plaintiff seeks actual damages, pre-judgment and post-judgment interest, costs of the suit, and other relief to which they may be entitled. The maximum amount sought is $20,000,000.

This case underscores the responsibilities of alcohol providers and the potential repercussions of negligence. The investigation and court proceedings are expected to continue in the coming months.
