Two Houston Police Officers Arrested on Separate Charges, Relieved of Duty Pending Investigations

In two distinct incidents, Sergeant S. Childers and Senior Police Officer S. Martinez, both of the Houston Police Department (HPD), have been arrested and charged with misdemeanor offenses. Both officers have been relieved of duty as the Internal Affairs Division proceeds with their investigations.

Sergeant S. Childers, assigned to the Clear Lake Division, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated at the end of his shift. Childers, a 27-year veteran with HPD, has been released on a $100 bond. This is his first offense.

The other officer, Senior Police Officer S. Martinez, assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Division, was off-duty when he was alleged to have assaulted a girlfriend at a residence in an unincorporated area of Harris County. He has been charged with Assault – Family Violence. According to court documents, he allegedly struck his girlfriend with his hand. A bond has not yet been set for Martinez, and he is currently in custody. This is also his first offense.

The Houston Police Department asserts that it holds its officers to the highest standards and will take appropriate action up to and including termination.
