Miami Man Shot Over Unpaid Marijuana Purchase; Suspect Arrested
MIAMI, FL – A Miami man was shot by a drug dealer he met on the dating app Grindr over an unpaid marijuana purchase, according to police. The accused gunman, 22-year-old Aaron Robert Pavey of Hollywood, was arrested on Thursday.
The Miami Police Department reports that the victim met Pavey through Grindr, a dating app primarily used by gay and bisexual men, in late June. The victim had purchased and smoked marijuana with Pavey “a few times” before the shooting incident, which occurred around 10:45 p.m. on Monday, July 24.
Police say the victim texted Pavey to buy some marijuana and met him near his home in the 50 block of Northwest 42nd Street in the Buena Vista neighborhood. According to the arrest report, the victim took the marijuana from Pavey’s car without paying and began walking towards his house.
As the victim walked away, Pavey allegedly yelled, “I’m going to shoot you!” and fired multiple shots, hitting the victim once in the leg and grazing his right arm. At least seven shots hit the victim’s house, with four penetrating the interior.
Authorities located Pavey in the Highland Lakes subdivision of northeast Miami-Dade’s Ojus area on Thursday afternoon. He was arrested on one count of attempted murder and two counts of shooting a deadly missile. As of Friday afternoon, Pavey was being held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
