Update: Person of Interest in Infant’s Death Arrested
Diana Guadalupe Zavala Lopez, 25, a person of interest in the death of an infant found deceased at a Houston gas station, has been arrested in Brownsville, Texas, on Tuesday, August 1. The Customs and Border Protection’s Rio Grande Valley (CBPRGV) Sector apprehended Zavala Lopez, who is currently charged with felony tampering with evidence – a human corpse. She will be extradited to Harris County for further proceedings.
The Houston Police Department (HPD) is continuing its investigation into the death of the infant, discovered at 13114 South Post Oak Road around 4:25 a.m. on April 2. The cause of death for the female infant remains under investigation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Surveillance video linked to this case depicts the person of interest, believed to be the infant’s mother, along with an unknown white Cadillac vehicle. At present, no charges have been filed against the woman in the footage.
On the day of the incident, HPD patrol officers responded to a call from Houston Fire Department paramedics regarding a deceased infant found at the gas station. Further investigation revealed an unknown Hispanic female entered the gas station bathroom and left about 15 minutes later. Hours afterward, a customer discovered an infant in the restroom and called 9-1-1.
Despite attempts to provide medical assistance by the paramedics, it was determined the infant had been deceased for several hours before being found.
