Suspect Charged in Fatal Shooting at 2111 San Jacinto Street

HOUSTON, TEXAS, August 20 – Jahdari Hatton, 24, has been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the fatal shooting of Jonathan Pettway, 26, and the wounding of an 18-year-old male. The incident occurred at approximately 2:55 p.m. on July 31 at a convenience store located at 2111 San Jacinto Street.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at the location, finding Pettway inside with a gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported him to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The second male suffered a graze wound and was treated and released at the scene.

The investigation revealed that a fight broke out inside the store, leading to Hatton producing a firearm and firing multiple rounds. Both victims were struck. Hatton was identified as a suspect and was arrested without incident on August 18 by the HPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, the HPD Southwest Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team, and members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force.
