Deputy Discovers Methamphetamines and Large Sum of Money During Traffic Stop; Suspect Arrested

LIBERTY, TEXAS, August 16, 2023 – A deputy with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on a black Ford F-350 pickup at Main St. and Sam Houston St. in the City of Liberty, leading to the arrest of the vehicle operator, Christopher Cassity, born June 8, 1984.

The incident began when the deputy requested proof of insurance from Cassity, and observed a set of brass knuckles inside the glove box. For officer safety, a frisk of Cassity was performed, resulting in the discovery of a glass pipe commonly used for smoking methamphetamines.

A probable cause search revealed a black box containing three small baggies of suspected methamphetamine, weighing approximately 4.23 grams. Cassity, currently on parole for Manufacture/Distribution of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamines) and Felon Possessing a Firearm, was also found to be in possession of approximately $17,000.00 in U.S. Currency.

Given Cassity’s narcotics history and unemployment, deputies suspect that the money was obtained from the sales of narcotics and have filed for its seizure.

Cassity was transported to the Liberty County Jail and charged with Possession Controlled Substance PG1 4g under 200g (Felony 2). Parole authorities were notified of the arrest.
