Houston Police Officer Discharges Weapon in Incident, Suspect Charged

HOUSTON, TEXAS, August 26, 2023 – Charges have been filed against a 41-year-old male suspect in connection with an incident that occurred at 8701 Town Park Drive around 9 p.m. on Friday, August 25, during which a Houston police officer discharged a weapon. The suspect faces charges of felony evading arrest in a motor vehicle and felon in possession of a firearm. The case will be heard in the 177th State District Court.

The officer who discharged his duty weapon during the incident was not injured. The officer has been with the department since October 2008 and is currently assigned to the Westside Patrol Division.

According to the HPD Special Investigations Unit, officers from the Westside Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team were pursuing a stolen vehicle driven by the suspect, who was believed to be armed. The pursuit concluded inside an apartment complex when the suspect’s vehicle collided with an unoccupied vehicle. The suspect then attempted to flee on foot.

The officer, believing that the suspect was armed, discharged his weapon. The suspect was not struck and subsequently surrendered. He was arrested without further incident and has been transported to Harris County Jail.

As is customary with officer-involved shooting incidents within Houston city limits, this case is under investigation by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Internal Affairs Division.
