President Biden Approves Emergency Declaration for Florida Ahead of Hurricane Idalia

WASHINGTON, D.C., AUGUST 28, 2023 – President Joe Biden announced today that he has approved the Emergency Declaration for the state of Florida as it prepares for the impending Hurricane Idalia. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has pre-deployed personnel and assets to assist with preparations and the aftermath of the storm.

In a statement, President Biden noted that he spoke with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis this morning to inform him of the federal government’s actions. “Florida has my full support as they prepare for Idalia and its aftermath,” the President said.

The Emergency Declaration will provide the necessary federal support and resources to Florida as it braces for the hurricane, which is expected to make landfall in the coming days. With this action, FEMA is authorized to coordinate all disaster relief efforts, specifically to save lives, protect property, and ensure public health and safety.
