Washington D.C. Man Sentenced to 22.5 Years for Stabbing Former Romantic Partner in Front of Child

WASHINGTON D.C., AUGUST 29, 2023 – Anthony Braxton, 47, was sentenced today to 22.5 years in prison for a violent attack on a former romantic partner in November 2017. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Acting Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

Braxton was convicted by a jury in April 2023 for assault with intent to kill while armed, among other charges. The conviction followed a trial in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

According to evidence presented by the prosecution, Braxton violated a court-ordered stay-away order when he visited the home of his former partner on Nov. 4, 2017. During the visit, he stabbed the woman nearly 30 times with a pair of needle nose pliers in broad daylight, all while their child was present.

Prior to the attack, a District of Columbia Superior Court Judge had issued an order on October 16, 2017, instructing Braxton to avoid contact with the victim. Evidence indicated that Braxton violated this order more than 500 times between October 16 and November 4, 2017.
