Possible Threat at T.F. Green Airport Prompts Multi-Agency Response; Situation Appears Unfounded
WARWICK, R.I., Sept. 1, 2023 — State and local police responded to a “possible threat” at T.F. Green Airport on Friday. According to Warwick Police Chief Bradford Connor, multiple agencies are currently investigating the situation and conducting a search of the parking lots.
Rhode Island State Police Col. Darnell Weaver stated that the threat “appears to be unfounded at this time.” A perimeter has been established around the parking garage, and a Warwick SWAT team is in the process of clearing it.
Preliminary information indicated that the Warwick police received a call about a potential suspect armed with a rifle. “They responded to the area, it was isolated to the parking garage, not the actual terminal,” said Col. Weaver.
As of now, police have blocked the entrances to the airport and have informed the public that the airport is temporarily closed. The R.I. Department of Transportation (RIDOT) has reported that all eastbound travel lanes on the airport connector at Exit 1A are blocked due to the ongoing incident at T.F. Green Airport.
