Smore Fire in Hemphill County Now 80% Contained, Estimated at 2,000 Acres

(HEMPHILL COUNTY, TEXAS, September 1, 2023) – The Smore Fire, which has been burning in Hemphill County, is now approximately 80% contained, covering an estimated 2,000 acres. Overnight, diminished fire behavior enabled firefighting crews to establish more direct containment lines around the blaze. Efforts today will focus on widening and improving these containment lines.
